Hundreds of thousands dead. Millions displaced and starving. Yet, the worst is yet to come.
Gaza is a refugee city. The ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948 led to the creation of Gaza as we know it today. Palestinian refugees in the heartland fled to this small strip of land crammed between the Mediterranean Sea and what soon became Israel.
Since then, Gaza has been subjected to constant bombings, massacres, wars, and genocide by Israel in the last 77 years. Since October of 2023 however, Gaza is facing its worst crisis yet.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government are using the October 7th attacks to justify the worst genocide since the Second World War. While the official death count is around 60,000, the death toll is likely much higher – in the hundreds of thousands.
Whether its in bombings, massacres at aid sites, or from starvation and disease, Israel kills hundreds of Palestinians every single day.
But Israel could not continue this genocide if not for the direct material support from the United States and Europe, as well as other countries in the international community.
From October 2023-2024, the United States has given over $22 billion in military aid to Israel. Since the beginning of this year, Congress has approved an additional $3.3 billion in military aid as well as $12 billion in weapons sales.
Other countries that have sold weapons to Israel since the start of the genocide include Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, India, and France, though France has since stopped doing so.
If you pay taxes in many of these countries but especially in the United States, that means you have directly supported this genocide. That is why it is all the more important for US and European citizens to not be further complicit in the Gaza genocide, and to do everything in our power to stop it.
Recently, Gaza has reached a stage 5 famine. 85 percent of Gazans face imminent starvation if humanitarian aid is not sent immediately.
On top of that, reporting suggests that Benjamin Netanyahu will soon implement his final solution for Gaza. The plan is a full scale invasion and annexation of Gaza. This puts all two million of Gaza’s citizens at an even higher risk than they already are in.
It is up to us, the global majority, to stop this from happening. We must end this holocaust before the people of Gaza are completely annihilated.
