Hundreds of Thousands of Israelis Protest the War in Gaza
Last Sunday, hundreds of thousands of Israelis filled the streets of Tel Aviv and other major cities in Israel to protest the war in Gaza.
While the protests in Israel have been primarily about the Israeli governments failure in bringing the hostages home and generally do not focus on the genocide of the Palestinian people, as the genocide rages on more and more Israelis are becoming disillusioned with their ruling government. Albeit small, there is a growing antiwar movement in Israel being led by conscientious objectors to the IDF draft.
Even if the majority of Israelis are unsympathetic to Palestinian suffering (as recent polling indicates), there is still a significant impact that genocide and ethnic cleansing has on the psyche of the settlers it benefits. Every day, we are seeing more and more settlements being built in the West Bank as well as plans for settlements in Gaza once the Israeli plan to rid Gaza of its population goes into effect. How does this effect the souls of those responsible, and those of the ones who are complicit and benefit from the worst of war crimes?
Israeli society is at an impasse. Many analysts claim that that it is verging on collapse, or at the very least, approaching an unprecedented level of disillusionment and mortification.
How will this lay on the conscience of the next generation of Israelis? Will there even be an Israel at all?
