Since February 28th, the United States and Israel have murdered over a thousand Iranians, including over 160 school children in a double tap airstrike on a girl’s elementary school. The motive behind this mass murder is clear: the United States is helping Israel to destroy Iran so that any resistance to the US-Israeli Zionist empire will be made impossible.
Americans vastly oppose this war. This was no more apparent last Saturday, when I attended the Stop the War on Iran protest organized by the ANSWER Coalition, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the Palestinian Youth Movement, and other organizations.
Hundreds of activists and community members showed up in front of the White House to rally against this illegal war. The rally featured speakers from the Palestinian Youth Movement and the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
An hour or so into the rally, we were flanked by counter protesters waving Israeli flags. The police and national guard set up a perimeter in front of us and the counter protesters. We chanted at them for a while until they got bored and left.
What was most notable to me was the number of young children attending the rally – elementary school kids were as invested as their parents in demanding an end to the war. The rally was ended with several young children leading chants. It was heartwarming to see the next generation fighting for justice.
Be on the lookout for more protests in your area. It is imperative that we show our government that we stand against the killing and brutalization of Iranians and the US and Israel’s imperial ambitions.
