On October 12th, 2026, Trump’s Homeland Security Investigations unit and ICE raided Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home in Washington DC in what was clearly a politically motivated move to further intimidate her and her family. Omar said agents pounded on her doors around 6 a.m. while she, her husband, and their son were inside, and that many items were taken.

The Justice Department says Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant regarding supposed “immigration fraud” Authorities were examining potential fraud involving immigration paperwork related to Omar’s family. Omar has rightly denied wrongdoing. No charges had been announced, and the evidence has not been made public.

Omar has been subject to constant racist harassment since taking office as she is a very vocal critic of Donald Trump.

I attended a rally in defense of Omar in front of the US Department of Justice on October 17th hosted by the DC Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression (DCAARPR). Other groups attending included CODEPINK, Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America, 50501 DC, the DC Against Trump Coalition, FLARE USA, the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines, among others.

Merawi Gerima from DCAARPR as well as Gordon Mutch from the International Coaliton for Human Rights in the Philippines were the main speakers. Mutch spoke about how he was detained by border patrol earlier in October near the Canadian border as retaliation for his peace activism.

It was great to see so many people from a large coalition of organizations come together in defense of Trump’s racist attacks against Representative Omar. It shows that we the voters will not stand for cheap intimidation tactics. Congratulations to Representative Omar for winning her reelection campaign.
